Co-Teaching Consultant 

Rose Merry KirkpatrickRose Merry Kirkpatrick is an educational consultant with the Dawson Education Cooperative Liaison Group. In this role, she works closely with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education Unit and the Arkansas State Improvement/Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) to coordinate the Arkansas Co-Teaching Project and provide co-teaching professional development support to schools and districts in Arkansas.

As part of her responsibilities with the SPDG, Rose Merry has served on the Arkansas Adolescent Literacy Intervention Project’s Strategic Instruction Model’s (SIM) planning committee and is a certified SIM Learning Strategies professional developer. In addition, she has worked with SPDG and ADE staff in the Smart Accountability’s school improvement project to assist schools in improving outcomes for students with disabilities.

Over the course of her twenty year career as an educational consultant associated with the Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education Unit, Rose Merry has coordinated and served as a professional developer on a number of projects related to the successful instruction and inclusion of students with disabilities, improved collaboration between general and special educators, and school change initiatives. She has also served as a strategic planning facilitator for school transition programs, schools and agency collaboration initiatives, and educational organizations. Rose Merry has participated in several national initiatives including the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) IDEA Partnership committee, the Center for Improving Teacher Quality’s (CTQ) service delivery community, and is currently involved in a collaborative co-teaching research project with staff at the University of Central Florida.

Prior to her work as an educational consultant, Rose Merry taught in Arkansas public schools as a special education resource teacher serving elementary and secondary students with disabilities. In addition, she spent five years as a coordinator for a work program for adults with developmental disabilities and/or autism.

Rose Merry received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Memphis and her Master of Science in Education at Henderson State University. She is currently certified in special education and secondary social studies. Rose Merry is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and Learning Forward (formerly National Staff Development Council).
