Leadership
At the district and school levels, a key to CTAG success is the District and School Leadership Teams (DLT and SLT, respectfully) and their ability to strengthen organizational capacity, guide effective committee and staff processes, reinforce effective school and schooling practices, and facilitate the implementation of academic and behavioral supports and interventions as needed. The DLT and SLT are critical to the success of all students, but especially to at-risk, underachieving, unsuccessful, and unresponsive students.
In order to help organize Leadership Team and CTAG processes, the SPDG assists--through professional development and technical assistance--districts and schools to:
- Develop district- and school-based committee and leadership structures that parallel the CTAG’s effective school and schooling model.
- Organize and develop effective committees with goals, objectives, action plans, and evaluation approaches that are reflected in the district and/or schools’ School Improvement (ACSIP) plans.
- Use a shared leadership approach that integrates staff, grade-level, academic department, committee, and Leadership Team processes.
- Set staff and meeting guidelines to maximize participant commitment and meeting effectiveness.
- Understand how to make effective team and committee decisions, and how to deal with difficult decisions and colleagues.
- Evaluate team and committee outcomes, and use “end-of-year” outcomes to plan and organize the goals and activities needed for the next school year.
- Implement evidence-based activities that support effective academic and social, emotional, and behavioral instruction and instructional/intervention services, supports, strategies, and programs as needed.
- Use data-based functional assessment, problem solving processes to determine the interventions needed to support students who are not responding to effective classroom instruction and behavioral management.
- How to analyze student, staff, school, and district accomplishments and identify continuing or new needs as new district and school improvement plans are developed.
